The man who wears many musical colors
Those seven words eloquently capture the multifaceted essence of Donald Lawrence. Songwriter. Producer. Composer. Music/Choir director. Recording artist. The guiding force behind such No. 1 hits as “Encourage Yourself,” “Back II Eden” and “The Blessing of Abraham.” Equally at home in both the inspirational and contemporary arenas, the multiple Grammy and Stellar Award winner has collaborated with a diverse roster, including such marquee names as Karen Clark Sheard, Donnie McClurkin, Kirk Franklin, En Vogue and Mary J. Blige.
It is not an exaggeration to say that Donald Lawrence is one of the premier Choir Masters and Vocal Arrangers on the planet. A Grammy, Stellar and Dove Award winner, Lawrence has been influencing the sounds of choirs across the world for over 20 years now. In the 90’s, Donald resurrected the Tri-City Singers, allowing them to be recognized as one of the best choirs in the world. In his solo endeavors, Lawrence created another famed but much smaller choir, his personal background group known as “The Company.” Donald has also written backing vocal arrangements in other genres like Pop, R&B, Musical Theater and Hip Hop.
On top of his personal success in leading choirs, Donald has openly shared his knowledge on the subject matter. He served as the face of Verizon’s “How Sweet The Sound Tour,” where he helped to select the best church choir in America. He has also partaken in dozens of workshops where he teaches his vocal techniques and vocal blend science to choirs and churches across the country.
Donald has the uncanny ability to teach and inspire background vocalists. It’s one of the many reasons he is one of the most sought after vocal producers in the music industry. It is with all of this past experience, combined with a new need in the marketplace that has spawned Donald’s next idea: The “And The Background Sings” National Tour.
